So, despite having never written about it on this here blog -- I like beer. A lot. I've drank 100s of craft beer styles, I go to craft beer events, and I have a nice collection of beer to cellar. I also plan to, eventually, brew my own beer. For this reason alone, I'm moving to a new house with a full basement I can get down and dirty in.

With that said, myself and my companero Nathan Checkeye, traveled a mighty distance for the biggest beer release party in America -- Darklord Day. Darklord Day is something of an epic partaking in beer circles. It's the biggest beer release because of the beer itself, Darklord, and it's quality, rarity and trade-ability; but it's also the biggest damned party of its kind because of the sheer quantity of the people present, how cool they traditionally are, and the amount of great beer they bring with them.

So, it was here, in the first few miles of central time zone, that Nathan and I sampled some of America's greatest beers. We met new beer fanatics from all over and shared stories. We even spent a lot of time talking to the people we knew from Pittsburgh, who we spotted among the thousands. What did I taste? Oh, let's see:

Weyerbacher Tiny
Surly Furious
Surly Darkness
Surly Abrasive
Troegs Flying Mouflan
Pretty Things Hoppy Triple
New Glarus Wisconsin Belgian Red
East End Wooden Nickel Saison
Squatters Outer Darkness Russian Imperial Stout
Founders Kentucky Breakfast Stout
Victory Wild Devil
Minneapolis Town Hall Masala Mama
Minneapolis Town Hall Czar Jack Imperial Stout
Goose Island Bourbon County Coffee Stout
Brooklyn Black Ops
Dark Horse Plead the 5th
Midnight Sun Monk's Mistress
Lost Abbey Angel's Share aged in Brandy barrels

... and from 3 Floyds, the reason for this party:

Vanilla Bean Darklord
Alpha King
Gumball Head

This doesn't even count what I've forgotten, or the few beers that I only tried one sip of. They'll be more to come about Darklord Day from me. Some critiques of the debacle it seemed to be, and how many people left (relatively) unhappy. As well as a post or two when I get down and dirty talking 'bout the beers themselves. Not to mention, my brief stop at Giordano's Pizza -- and the glory that turned out to be.
